Our Mission and Story
Founded in 2015, Cognistx is a Pittsburgh-based applied AI company, building multistrategy AI systems for businesses across the U.S. We combine decades of expertise in question-answering, NLP, computer vision, and machine learning to create AI that delivers measurable impact. Today, that expertise powers Cognistx Chat, a no-code AI assistant that turns any website into a conversation, and Squary AI, a secure answer engine that gives legal teams instant, source-linked answers across every document they manage.
Pioneers in Artificial Intelligence
Our co-founder, Dr. Eric Nyberg, is a tenured professor at Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science. Dr. Nyberg has worked on a broad range of AI applications, including automatic language understanding, translation, and generation; advanced information retrieval and ranking; and automatic question-answering systems since the 1980s. As a member of the original IBM Watson development team, he helped develop a multi-strategy question answering system, as well as specific techniques used by Watson in the Jeopardy! Challenge.
Our co-founder and CEO, Sanjay Chopra, brings over 30 years of experience building and scaling AI and technology companies. A former executive at IBM and Giant Eagle, Sanjay licensed Intellions IP to Google and was recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He currently serves on the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, bringing deep expertise in translating cutting-edge AI research into products that drive real business outcomes.
